South Florida Alumni Association

Frequently Asked Questions

      What chapters does SFAA support?

Alumni of our association are typically graduates of a South Florida Chapter or live in the area.  As such, we provide support to those chapters.  We also assist in local colonizations, and are ready to provide assistance to any Kappa Sigma brother, undergraduate or alumni, that needs it.

Why are you an association and not an alumni chapter?

Even though our name is “Association,” we have been chartered as an official alumni chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.  We will have all of the voting rights and powers granted to Alumni Chapters by the Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules of the Kappa Sigma Frarternity.

Can I be a member of more than one alumni chapter or association?

Yes.  Provided you meet the eligibility requirements of the chapter or associations you wish to be a member of, you can join as many as you wish.

How does membership in the association help the chapters?

Your dues, which are only $40 for the first year and $30 annually thereafter, will cover annual alumni dues to the Fraternity, will be used to provide support to chapters, help pay for alumni events, and provide you ways to get information about the chapters and events within the district.

Your membership will provide a valuable message to our undergraduate brothers:  that Kappa Sigma is for life.  Showing undergraduates that they have alumni interested in their accomplishments gives them incentives to work harder, and remain involved after they graduate.

You will be providing support to the volunteers of the district and chapters in so far as being an available resource in whatever profession or field you work in.  By this we do not mean you providing free products or services.  Simply being available for a volunteer to ask a question, or get some quick advice can be invaluable.

How is this different from other associations or chapters I may have heard of or be a member of right now?

This Association is organized by young and old alumni, volunteers, and experienced Fraternity officers, in conjunction with the chapters.  We know exactly what kind of support the chapters need today, and how to best help them.  We are well connected with the Fraternity, and our directors include District Grand Masters, Commissioners, and Past Supreme Executive Committee officers.

We are going to work with the chapters in the district to bring the greatest number of undergraduates and alumni together as possible.  We are not going to focus on only one chapter and you do not have to live locally to be an active member.  We plan on having teleconference Association meetings semi annually which you may participate in at your desire, but are not required.

Is this the same as the Greater Miami Kappa Sigma Alumni Association?

No.  This Alumni Association is recently formed and is not the same as or replacing any currently existing chapter or association.

How can I get more involved in addition to being a member of SFAA?

We are always looking for volunteers to aid our chapters.  Volunteering as an advisor may take as little as four hours a month of your time, but can be an extremely rewarding experience.  As an undergraduate you may have had an Advisor that touched your life in some way.  You can be that person for an undergraduate today.  Similarly, you may have had little or no alumni role models.  Make sure that experience isn’t one that’s shared by an undergraduate.

Who should I contact with questions?

Please feel free to email the chapter’s Grand Master here for more information.
